Tired of going to the grocery store to buy veggies? What? You don’t buy veggies? Well, you should, because growing your own vegetables from kitchen scraps is totally badass.
It does require some time, but the benefits are many. Think about it — not only will you save money, but you’ll get to eat your own homegrown food. Now that’s awesome.
#1. Scallions
You can regrow scallions using their discarded roots. Leave an inch of the scallions attached to the root then put them in a glass of water. Place the glass of water in a room that’s well-lit. Once they’re 4 – 6 inches long, they’re ready to harvest.
#2. Garlic
Garlic sprouts can be grown from garlic clove. They taste milder than garlic, and can be added to pasta, salads and other dishes. When they begin to sprout, have them placed in a glass that has little water.
#3. Bok Choy
In a well lit area, place the Bok Choy’s root ends in water. Give it 1-2 weeks, and then move it to a pot that has soil. It will grow a new full head.
#4. Carrots
Carrot greens can be regrown from carrot tops. Have the carrot tops put in a dish that has little water. Place the dish in a room that is well-lit or on a window sill. Carrot greens are a bit bitter but when chopped up together with garlic and sweetened with vinegar, they can be used in salads.
#5. Basil
Basil cuttings can be used to grow new basil. Put basil clippings that have stems of 3-4 inches in a glass of water. Place them in direct sunlight and when the roots become 2 inches long, plant them in pots. With time, they will grow into full basil plants. Be sure to change the water constantly though, so they don’t get slimy.
#6. Celery
You can use leftover celery bottoms for this. Cut the base off and place it in a shallow bowl or saucer in the sun. The leaves will thicken and grow with time in the middle of the base. Plant it in soil after 3 days.
#7. Romaine Lettuce
Romaine lettuce can be grown from the bottom of a lettuce head. Put stumps of the romaine lettuce in a ½ inch of water. A few days later, transplant the romaine lettuce into soil once new leaves and roots start to appear. The leaves can grow up to twice the size. Cabbages can also be regrown in the same way.
#8. Cilantro
If you place the stems of cilantro in a glass of water, they will grow. When the roots become long enough, plant them in a pot that has soil. Place them in a room with ample lighting. The plants will be fully grown in a few months.

Praying at the North Winds Weir
Summer started with a storm. The power left and the house darkened Rain drops hurled themselves against the windows.
The quarter ended. Nothing felt finished, failure scented the air with its rotten stank. Errands had to be done, but when I tried to type, the words would not come. I looked into the mirror, and what once seemed acceptable, now looked bloated and hideous. Not able to change my look nor my activity, I ran into the storm.
I ran with a vest, shorts and some paisley decorated rain boots. I ran in the darkness, closed my eyes and prayed. I ran blind, water rushing the the sides of my feet. Puddles threatening to flood my existence. I ran but my heart wouldn't beat. I felt cold and the Duwamish river surged. My skin felt transparent, pale and wrinkly as it soaked in the weather.
I ran to the north wind's weir. I prayed for a better world. I prayed for the salmon to come back. I ran to the bridge and looked in the river. The river swelled and stayed stagnant in torrid rain. I saw dark clouds of oil ooze from the depths, it's oily subsistence killing my existence, and I prayed. I prayed. I prayed. I prayed to gods that I did not understand.

Trying to not be a Jackass
This is a confession of my difficulties....
1) I'm considering leaving Dirt Corps. I'm not getting enough hours to support myself, and a degree of awkwardness is forming.
I'm the only student, who speaks english as her primary language, and I'm starting to feel that I don't belong...I love Dirt Corps, and it is lacking money. It's a hard choice to make. Am I taking advantage of Dirt Corps? Should Dirt Corps support someone who is more disadvantaged than me? Do people just see me as a white asshole?
Will any other jobs even consider me?
2) The Marine Electric Class is feeling too easy. I'm having a lot of trouble paying attention and being respectful, which is a shame because I really like my teacher. ..I'm trying my best not to be a Jackass
3) I feel like quitting Scrambling. It's so hard to continue. I don't want to be that out-of-shape jerk, who slows the group down.

Tomorrow, I wear White
J'ai vu le soleil après la pluie.
Ok- too much talking about me. I talk and talk and talk. Today, it was just talking and waxing. I waxed the boat and talked. Tomorrow, it is spraying. I hope I wear white.
Tonight, it's just Sam.

Repetition
(Mountaineers- Scramble Class 2017- Rock Field Trip)
Life is good. I have challenges, but overall, I'm enjoying life.
I had a very good first day at my boat building composites class, and the scrambling class with the Mountaineers has been insightful. I'm worried that I am not in fit enough for scrambling. I was huffing over a hill, I can't imagine going up a mountain. I don't know if I can do this shit!
Among the Mountaineers, it's hard for me to relate to people. People are perfect, rich, and incredibly fit. It's really annoying.
It's funny, I like the Spanish speakers at Dirt Corps more than the Mountaineering types. When Itzel offered me a McDonald's meal, it was one sweet gesture of friendship. Though it did hurt my gums for days. When Ileana brought me a cake for my Birthday, and I won't lie, I nearly cried from joy. As time progresses, I'm one of the only monolingual people left at Dirt Corps, and my inability to speak Spanish makes me feel left out. Katherine is going to take a Spanish class at Casa Latina, and I'm wondering if I should follow her. However, I'm so spread out. I'm not earning enough, I'm out of shape, and I'm constantly failing to learn-- I don't know if added classes is going to make my life easier. I need to find ways to relax, unwind and communicate.
I should invest $200 into Spanish classes. However, I just want to Salsa....Maybe I'll invite Katherine to Salsa dance with me?
(Mountaineers - Scramble class 2017 - Navigating)
I've been really obsessed with Duolingo and have been practicing nighly. However, I doubt that will get me communicating. Mostly, I like the repetition
