Harmonics in Power Systems (Journal)

It's 1:35am, and I'm reading the book above. It's no Shakespearean masterpiece, but it appeals to my boring personality. I read chapter 2, which is titled "Understanding Power Disturbances', and I don't fully understand clean power and harmonics. I've heard of this stuff before but I've never fully understood it. I know that in most industrial warehouses, the power is 3 phase. Usually in the US, the fundamental frequency is 60hz, the 2nd harmonic is 120Hz and the third is 180hz.  At neutral all of these combine to make a resulting zero current.

The book says that solid state devices and other electronic equipment can alter wave forms, and thus junk up the cleanliness of the power. I get that this can happen, but I just feel well versed with harmonics and power. I wish I had a full chapter or book that talked specifically about this subject. I know for devices to work properly, especially in industrial settings where you get specialized equipment, it is important to have 'clean' power but beyond that - I don't know. I'm somewhat lost. - I just need a little something.
